Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday to intervene and halt the Iran war, stating that only he has the power to do so. He expressed concerns that oil prices could exceed $200 a barrel, a warning he believes should be taken seriously. "I urge President Trump: only you can stop the war in our Gulf region," Sisi said during the Egypt Energy Show 2026 conference in Cairo. He added, "Please, Mr. President, please help us stop the war. You have the ability to make it happen." Egypt has historically received military aid from the U.S. and support from affluent Gulf nations. The country has also condemned Iranian attacks on Gulf Arab nations and is working on diplomatic solutions to prevent a broader regional conflict. Sisi emphasized that the ongoing war could lead to significant supply shortages and price hikes in the energy sector, the full impact of which has yet to be realized. He stated, "I worry that attacks on energy facilities, including production sites and refineries, will have very serious consequences for the global economy and fuel prices." Market analysts have cautioned that "the price of oil could surpass $200 a barrel, and this is not an exaggeration," he noted. Additionally, Sisi warned about a potential crisis in global food supplies, pointing out that interruptions in fertilizer exports could greatly affect food prices. "Wealthy nations may manage this, but for middle-income and vulnerable economies, it could severely threaten their stability," he commented. Egypt and Israel have maintained diplomatic ties since a peace agreement in 1979, which returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt after it was taken by Israel during the 1967 war.
