President to address Parliament today
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will speak to Parliament today, October 20. He will provide updates on the government's actions to manage the economic effects of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. In a media briefing on Tuesday, October 17, President Dissanayake explained the government's strategy to maintain stable supplies of fuel, gas, and electricity, ensuring that state services continue with minimal interruptions. To address concerns about the conflict impacting supply chains, the government has launched a QR code system for fuel distribution. Currently, fuel is being allocated based on an 'odd-even' system for vehicle number plates. Additionally, gas distribution has been organized to guarantee that residents and businesses receive enough supplies. During his speech, the President will also outline steps taken to lessen the effects on essential goods and the import-export sectors. Parliament will meet at 9:30 a.m. today.
