Electricity trade unions hail successful talks with the President
Electricity trade unions in Sri Lanka are pleased after their meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the afternoon of the 13th. They described the discussions as successful. After the meeting at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, union representatives told reporters they are hopeful the President will address their concerns fairly. They made it clear that their unions do not intend to cause problems or undermine the government. The union members also revealed that the President promised to have a special meeting with the chairpersons and boards of directors of the new power sector companies later that evening. He agreed to work on solutions for the issues raised by the electricity trade unions during that meeting. Additionally, the unions stated that the President has ordered an immediate halt to the hiring of external electrical superintendents and engineers for the new companies.
