80% of Akuregoda double murder investigation completed – Police

The police have reported that they have completed about 80% of the investigation into the double murder of a lawyer and his wife, who were shot in a supermarket parking lot in Akuregoda. This update was shared by Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F. U. Wootler, during the weekly Cabinet media briefing today. He mentioned that within three days of the incident, which occurred on February 13, 2026, police arrested five people, including the main suspect in the shootings. ASP Wootler added that three of those arrested are being questioned under 90-day detention orders, while the other suspects have been remanded. Additionally, he noted that 12 police teams are actively working to capture several more suspects.
