Former CID Officer expresses regret over arrest of Nathasha Edirisooriya under ICCPR Act
A former head of the Computer Crimes Investigation Division at the Criminal Investigation Department expressed sorrow today (19) in the Supreme Court about the arrest of comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya. She was arrested under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act for allegedly insulting Buddhism. The State Counsel presented a letter to the court showing this regret. Additionally, the State Counsel informed the court that the Inspector General of Police plans to create guidelines for arrest procedures under the ICCPR Act. This is to avoid any misuse or unlawful actions. After these statements, the court ordered that the petitions' hearing should be wrapped up.
