Apartment building fire in Spain s Catalonia kills 5 youths

A fire in an apartment building in Catalonia, Spain, has resulted in the deaths of five individuals, with four others sustaining minor injuries, according to regional firefighters' reports late on Monday. Spanish news agency EFE, citing sources from the fire department, stated that all those who lost their lives were believed to be young, with some possibly being underage. The fire started in a storage room of a five-story building located in Manlleu, a town with a population of 21,000 in the Osona region, north of Barcelona. Firefighters noted that the reasons for the victims' inability to escape the storage area remain unclear. The Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan police, have initiated an investigation to determine how the fire began. Identification of the victims is expected to continue on Tuesday morning, as some bodies were severely burned.
