Amber weather advisory issued, showers above 100mm expected in parts of the island
The Department of Meteorology has issued an 'Amber' weather advisory due to expected heavy rainfall in Sri Lanka. This advisory covers the Eastern and Uva provinces, along with the districts of Polonnaruwa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota. Announced at noon today, the advisory will remain active until 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. Some areas in these regions may experience rainfall exceeding 100 mm. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning during thunderstorms.
