Over 800 prisoners currently on death row in Sri Lanka - Ministry
The Ministry of Justice and National Integration has reported that there are 817 people on death row in Sri Lanka's prisons. As of September 30, 2025, the 2025 Progress Report indicates that 811 of these individuals are locals, consisting of 792 men and 19 women. The report also mentions that five foreign nationals and one person convicted of a terrorism-related crime are included in the death row count. Additionally, there are 311 people serving life sentences, which includes 70 foreign nationals. Among those serving life imprisonment, three individuals have been sentenced for terrorism-related offences, according to the Ministry's findings.
