Fairly heavy rainfall above 50mm likely in parts of the island today
Today, the Department of Meteorology reports that showers will happen in the Central, Uva, and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Hambantota districts. Some areas in Uva Province and the districts of Ampara, Batticaloa, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, and Polonnaruwa may see fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm. The Northern Province and Anuradhapura district can expect several periods of rain. After 2:00 p.m., showers or thundershowers are likely in many other areas. Some places in Sabaragamuwa Province, along with Kaluthara, Galle, and Matara districts, may receive heavy rain over 50 mm. Additionally, misty conditions are expected in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in Galle and Matara districts during the early morning hours. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of damage from strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
