Trinco Buddha statue incident- Balangoda Kassapa Thero and others to be produced in court

Four Buddhist monks, including Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thero, along with six other people, are set to appear in front of the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court. The Trincomalee Magistrate had ordered on February 09 that these ten individuals, including Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, remain in custody until today (11) regarding the incident. They were arrested for placing a Buddha statue at the Trincomalee Bodhiraja Viharaya on November 16, 2025, which broke coastal conservation laws.
