Ten people, including Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero and several other monks, have been taken to court. They are currently in remand custody due to their involvement in the Trincomalee Buddha statue case. The Trincomalee Magistrate decided on February 02 to keep the ten suspects, including Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, in remand until today (09) regarding this matter. They face accusations of placing a Buddha statue at the Trincomalee Bodhiraja Vihara on November 16, 2025, which is against coastal conservation laws.
