Powerful magnitude 6.7 earthquake strikes near Baculin, Philippines, USGS says
A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale hit 68 kilometers (42 miles) east of Baculin in the Philippines on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles). The Philippine seismology agency, Phivolcs, warned that there could be damage and aftershocks following this offshore event. So far, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Joey Monato, the police chief in Hinatuan, a town in Surigao del Sur province, noted, “It was not that strong, but people rushed outside.”
