Energy Ministry to transfer CEB assets to six new companies before Feb. 1

The Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Professor Udayanga Hemapala, has informed the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) that it must finish transferring its assets to six new companies by February 1, 2026. This instruction was given in writing to the General Manager of the CEB. The CEB plans to implement this change as part of a restructuring program involving the six companies. Currently, steps are being taken to carefully transfer all CEB assets to these companies. Employees have already been assigned to the newly created companies. Those who do not wish to transfer have the option to apply for voluntary retirement. So far, 2,173 employees have chosen to apply for retirement. The Ministry of Energy has ordered the CEB to ensure that compensation payments to affected employees are completed in the first week of February. Once the restructuring is finished, the Ceylon Electricity Board will be dissolved, and its services will continue through the six new companies.
