LNP - Boy dies after tragic accident at Colombo Swimming Club

07 Oct 2025 By Tyronne Jayamanne Local

The eight-year-old boy who was critically injured in an incident at the Colombo Swimming Club has passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital, according to hospital sources. The child, identified as Master Arlan, had fallen into a swimming pool during a private birthday party held at the club.  He had been on life support for several days after suffering severe brain injuries. His father, Prasad Panagoda, later filed a complaint with the police, alleging negligence by the club and its staff, claiming that no lifeguard was present at the pool when the incident occurred. The Kollupitiya Police have launched a full investigation into the incident. In a statement to its members, the Colombo Swimming Club said a lifeguard had rescued the child and provided emergency assistance with the help of a doctor who was among the guests. The club added that it is cooperating fully with the police investigations.
