A cache of weapons, including firearms and ammunition, has been discovered on a plot of land in the Middeniya area, allegedly buried by former SLPP local government candidate Sampath Manamperi. Police Spokesman ASP F. U. Wootler said that the discovery was made during a search operation conducted based on information provided by the suspect himself. Among the recovered items were, two T56 rifle magazines, 115 rounds of T56 ammunition, a 9mm pistol and one hand grenade Investigations revealed that the weapons had been buried on a plot of land where Manamperi’s alleged mistress resides. Manamperi, who is also under investigation in connection with a massive drug bust involving two buried containers of ice (crystal methamphetamine), surrendered to the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court on September 17. Currently in the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau, he was brought to the Western North Crime Division for further questioning regarding the narcotics found on land linked to him in Middeniya.
