LNP - Supermarket fined Rs. 600,000 for selling expired food items

The Aluthkade Magistrate’s Court has imposed a total fine of Rs. 600,000 on three branches of a leading supermarket chain after they pleaded guilty to selling expired food items. Each branch was fined Rs. 200,000 in three separate cases filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) for offering expired jelly, menthol, and biscuits for sale. The CAA said the cases were filed following routine inspections aimed at protecting consumer rights and ensuring food safety. Officials warned that legal action would continue against any retailer found violating food safety regulations.
