Colombo Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathiraja today issued an arrest warrant against former Parliamentarian Sajin de Vass Gunawardena for failing to appear in court in connection with a case filed by the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue over unpaid income tax amounting to Rs. 36.9 million. Gunawardena is accused of failing to pay income tax for the years 2010 to 2012. The case was filed in 2023 by the Inland Revenue Department. Appearing on behalf of the complainant, Counsel Dinesh Perera informed the court that although summons had been duly served on the defendant, he had failed to appear.
