Former SriLankan CEO Kapila Chandrasena found dead - Police
Kapila Chandrasena, the former Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines, was found dead at a home in Colpetty, according to police reports. Authorities suspect that his death may be a suicide. Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F. U. Wootler, confirmed that the body was located at a residence on No. 38, Pedris Road, Kollupitiya, where it appeared that Chandrasena had hanged himself. In a related development, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court issued an arrest order for Chandrasena, who had recently been released on bail just two days prior. The warrant was authorized by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodharagama after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) filed a request, claiming that he had breached the conditions of his bail. The Chief Magistrate instructed the Bribery Commission officers to carry out the warrant immediately. Chandrasena was taken into custody on March 12 for allegedly accepting bribes during the acquisition of Airbus aircraft for the national airline. He was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, May 5, under the condition of a cash bail of Rs. 500,000 and three sureties of Rs. 1 million each. However, the Bribery Commission later reported that he had allegedly paid two people Rs. 15,000 each to act as sureties for his bail.
