Over 70 Vietnamese nationals arrested for alleged financial scams and visa violations
Sri Lanka Police have arrested a group of foreign nationals suspected of financial scams and violating visa rules. The arrests took place in separate operations in Colombo and Matara. In one raid on the evening of October 6, officers from the Kollupitiya Police Station detained 74 individuals, consisting of 41 men and 33 women, at a housing complex on Uttarananda Mawatha in Kollupitiya. The suspects are Vietnamese nationals, aged between 19 and 39. The Kollupitiya Police are continuing their investigations into this case. In another incident, the Divisional Crime Detective Bureau in Matara apprehended six more foreign nationals, including one woman, during a raid at a hotel in the Talalla area of Gandara last evening. According to the police, these individuals were also involved in financial fraud and were staying in Sri Lanka without valid visas. The suspects, who are Taiwanese and Chinese nationals aged between 25 and 40, were arrested for running businesses while on tourist visas and for having foreign cigarettes. Further investigations are being carried out by Gandara Police.
