Four schools in Deniyaya closed tomorrow due to spread of illness
Four schools in the Deniyaya Educational Zone will be closed tomorrow, May 8, due to a fever-related illness, as advised by the Governor of the Southern Province. The Deniyaya Zonal Education Director, Nishaka Hettigoda, explained that this action is intended to help stop the spread of the disease, following recommendations from health officials. The schools affected are Deniyaya Central College, Deniyaya Rajapaksa Maha Vidyalaya, Deniyaya St. Matthew’s Bilingual Maha Vidyalaya, and Pallegama Siddhartha Vidyalaya. A reporter from Ada Derana noted that the decision came after a rise in cases among students and teachers at these schools. Health officials are urging parents to adhere to health guidelines to prevent further spread and to seek medical help for their children if they show any symptoms.
