US President Donald Trump announced that he views the ceasefire with Iran as ending on “Wednesday evening Washington time.” He stated that it is “highly unlikely” he would extend it further without a deal. In a phone interview with Bloomberg, Trump remarked, “It’s highly unlikely that I’d extend it.” The ceasefire was meant to last two weeks, starting on April 7. Trump emphasized, “I’m not going to be rushed into making a bad deal. We’ve got all the time in the world.” When asked about the potential for fighting to resume if no agreement is reached, he replied, “If there’s no deal, I would certainly expect.” In the past, Trump has changed his stance on extending the ceasefire. Last week, during a session with reporters, he was asked five times about the extension and gave three different responses. Additionally, Trump stated that Israel did not convince him to attack Iran. His remarks followed reports suggesting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu influenced his decision, as well as criticism from right-wing commentators. Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, “Israel never talked me into the war with Iran. The results of Oct. 7th, added to my lifelong opinion that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON, did.” He further mentioned that “the results in Iran will be amazing” in his post.
