Over 500 families in the Rukmalgama Housing Scheme are experiencing serious problems due to a water shortage that has lasted for several days, worsened by the ongoing dry weather. To address this issue, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has set up multiple 1,000-litre water tanks and started delivering water to the homes. However, residents report that some of these tanks have not yet been filled. They also mentioned that the water in certain tanks runs out in about 30 minutes because of high demand. A spokesperson for the Water Board explained that the installation of water tanks is a temporary solution. They have also begun supplying water using bowsers. The spokesperson promised that steps would be taken in the future to find a permanent fix for the water shortage. Residents noted that a large water tank was set up in 1980 to serve the Rukmalgama Housing Scheme, but maintenance was stopped years ago, leading to ongoing water problems in the area.
