Iran has firmly rejected US President Donald Trump’s assertion that the country sought a ceasefire amid the ongoing conflict. In a statement to Iranian state television, the foreign ministry spokesperson labeled Trump’s comments as “false and baseless,” emphasizing that Tehran had not made any such request. The paramilitary Revolutionary Guard of Iran also released a statement declaring that the Strait of Hormuz is “firmly and decisively under the control” of their forces. They added that “this strait will not be opened to the enemies of this nation through the ridiculous spectacle by the president of the United States.” Trump had claimed on his social media that Iran’s leaders approached the US for a ceasefire. He mentioned that any request would only be considered if the Strait of Hormuz was “open, free and clear,” warning that military actions would persist until that condition was met. However, Iran dismissed these statements, asserting that they were untrue and did not represent its actual stance. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that the country is ready to continue the conflict if necessary. In a recent interview, he stated that Iran would defend itself without yielding to threats or deadlines, reinforcing the government's position against external pressure. At the same time, Trump implied that the United States might soon conclude its military involvement, even suggesting a potential exit within weeks. However, he also noted that the US could still conduct targeted strikes if needed.
