Air Canada Express jet hits ground vehicle, closing New York s LaGuardia airport
An Air Canada Express regional jet hit a ground vehicle while landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Monday evening. This incident led to the closure of the airport, as reported by flight tracking site Flightradar24. The CRJ-900 aircraft was arriving from Montreal and collided with the vehicle at around 24 miles per hour (39 kph). The jet is operated by Jazz Aviation, a regional partner of Air Canada. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implemented a ground stop for all flights at the airport, effective until 0530 GMT, according to a notice from the agency. The notice indicated that the airport's closure was due to an emergency, with a strong possibility of an extension, but did not provide further details. LaGuardia's website showed that incoming flights were either redirected to other airports or sent back to their original departure points. Air Canada and the FAA have not yet replied to requests for comments.
