Sri Lanka to issue fuel for vehicles on odd–even basis starting tomorrow
Starting tomorrow, Sri Lanka will implement a fuel purchase system based on odd and even vehicle number plates. Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage, the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), announced this change today, the 19th. Under this new system, vehicles will be allowed to buy fuel on specific dates depending on the last digit of their number plates. Cars with even-numbered plates, which end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, can fill up on even-numbered days. Meanwhile, those with odd-numbered plates, ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, will be able to purchase fuel on odd-numbered days. This decision comes as fuel supply routes are being affected daily due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, leading to a rise in fuel demand in Sri Lanka. To manage the available fuel more effectively, the government previously reintroduced the QR code system for fuel purchases, starting from March 16.
