134 foreign nationals arrested following raid on Chinese-led online scam centres in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan authorities have arrested 134 foreign nationals in a raid on online scam centers led by Chinese operators. This group includes 126 individuals from China, as well as four from Myanmar and four from Taiwan. The operation was a joint effort involving the Sri Lanka Army's intelligence units and the Department of Immigration and Emigration. It targeted several guest houses in the Anuradhapura and Mihintale regions, where the suspects were reportedly involved in a large-scale organized scam. The operation began after Military Intelligence received a tip-off. Acting on this lead, officials conducted raids on five specific locations that provided accommodation, capturing the suspects at well-known guest houses in the area. Authorities also confiscated a variety of equipment used in the illegal activities, such as laptops, mobile phones, and other technical devices. The Department of Immigration and Emigration, along with the Sri Lanka Police, is actively investigating the suspects and the seized items to support legal actions moving forward.
