Energy Ministry dismisses false reports of future power cuts
The Energy Ministry of Sri Lanka has urged the public to ignore false reports suggesting that power cuts will happen in the future. These misleading claims are linked to issues with coal supply at the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai. In a statement, the Ministry noted that incorrect information is spreading in some media, implying that coal supply problems may lead to power cuts, especially by April. The Ministry made it clear that out of 36 coal shipments ordered for the plant’s operations, 22 have already been unloaded, and the plant is running smoothly. They also assured that the supplier can provide the remaining coal without any interruptions. Furthermore, the Ministry has taken initial steps to secure emergency coal supplies if necessary. It highlighted that there is enough furnace oil for electricity generation available until the end of April. The Ministry firmly stated that there will be no power cuts as suggested by the circulating reports. They requested everyone not to be misled by this false information.
