The Sri Lanka Navy reported that they have recovered the bodies of 84 people from an Iranian ship that sank following a U.S. attack in waters south of Sri Lanka's maritime boundary. The Navy also mentioned that they are still searching for more missing individuals. The vessel, known as IRIS Dena, sank in deep waters after being hit by a U.S. submarine. The ship, which had 180 crew members aboard, was returning to Iran after taking part in an international naval fleet review and military exercise in Visakhapatnam, India, when the incident took place. U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the U.S. sank "an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters" in the Indian Ocean, noting that it was struck by a torpedo. However, he did not specify the name of the Iranian ship involved in the attack. Hegseth stated, "In the Indian Ocean—an American submarine sunk an Iranian warship, that thought it was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo—Quiet Death."
