Female lawyer sentenced to 12 years in prison for preparing forged deeds
A 61-year-old female lawyer was sentenced to 12 years in prison today (05) by the Colombo High Court for creating forged deeds. The ruling was made by Judge Lanka Jayaratne after a lengthy trial, according to a reporter from Ada Derana. The court specified that the 12-year sentence must actually be served within six years. The Attorney General had charged the lawyer with two counts, including the creation of fake deeds for land in Borella. In delivering the verdict, the judge noted that the prosecution proved both charges against her beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, the judge imposed six years of hard labor for each count, adding up to a total of 12 years. However, the sentence's clarification indicated that it should be completed within six years. The trial also highlighted that the lawyer is a mother of two.
