The Department of Meteorology has issued an 'Amber' alert due to expected heavy rainfall in several areas of Sri Lanka. This warning, announced at 1:00 p.m. today (18), will remain in effect until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow (19). The Uva Province, along with the districts of Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, Matale, and Nuwara-Eliya, may experience rainfall exceeding 100 mm in some locations. The public is urged to take necessary precautions to avoid damage from heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning during thundershowers.
