Sri Lanka to implement special security measures for India–Pakistan World Cup game
The Sri Lankan government will put in place special security measures for the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan, which is set to take place in Colombo on February 15. This announcement was made today (10) by Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa during a media briefing. Minister Jayatissa expressed that Sri Lanka is pleased with Pakistan's decision to play against India after initially deciding not to, thanks to Sri Lanka's involvement. He mentioned that the country is eager to foster friendship and cooperation in the region through cricket whenever possible. "Due to various challenges in the region, this match was uncertain at first. However, over the last few days, the government, along with several organizations such as the International Cricket Council (ICC) and our cricket authorities, worked hard to make this happen. Now, we have the chance to host this significant match," Jayatissa stated. The Minister also shared that the President had a direct conversation with Pakistan's Prime Minister, leading to the official confirmation of Pakistan's participation. "We are happy to host this match between the two countries in Sri Lanka. We will ensure maximum security and a special traffic plan by the police to handle the expected large crowds," added the Cabinet Spokesman.
