Over 800 arrested in “Nation United” island-wide anti-drug raids
In a major operation against drugs, police in Sri Lanka arrested 802 people during raids that took place yesterday, September 9. The campaign, called "Nation United – National Drive," focused on removing narcotics from the country. A total of 791 separate raids were carried out during this effort. The majority of these raids, 588, targeted heroin and "Ice," which is crystal methamphetamine. Among those arrested, eleven people were sent for rehabilitation, according to police reports. Authorities have also started investigations into three individuals for illegal assets and have secured detention orders for 15 suspects. During the raids, police confiscated 120 grams of hashish and 138 pills of narcotics.
