Education Council clears another hurdle
The Parliamentary Sub-Committee responsible for forming the Education Council has approved the report from the expert committee assigned by the Ministry of Education. This decision was made during a meeting led by Deputy Minister of Labour, Mahinda Jayasinghe. Professor O.G. Dayaratne, who chairs the expert committee, presented the report to Jayasinghe, who heads the Parliamentary Sub-Committee. The Sub-Committee has already shared its opinions and suggestions regarding the expert committee's findings. Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe mentioned that the report has been translated into Sinhala, Tamil, and English, and copies have been distributed to committee members. The Sub-Committee plans to send the expert committee report to the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Education. This committee is set to meet on February 18, where they are expected to approve the report. Once the approval is given, teachers, principals, trade unions, and the public will have one month to offer their feedback and suggestions. Positive and helpful ideas received during this time will be considered. Jayasinghe also noted that necessary changes will be made to the report, and steps will be taken to turn it into law quickly. This development is significant for the future of education in Sri Lanka.
