Showers above 75mm expected in parts of the island
Today, the Department of Meteorology has announced that parts of Sri Lanka will experience showers, particularly in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva provinces, and the Hambantota district. Some areas in the Uva province and the districts of Batticaloa, Ampara, Hambantota, and Nuwara-Eliya may see heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm. Additionally, after 2:00 p.m., there may be showers or thundershowers in other regions, with some places receiving more than 50 mm of rain. The Meteorological Department also warned of strong winds reaching 30-40 km/h in the Northern and Northwestern provinces, as well as in the Matale, Trincomalee, and Anuradhapura districts. Early morning mist is likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, along with Galle, Matara, and Badulla districts. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce risks from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
