Namal Rajapaksa Dares President Dissanayake to Act on Allegations Surrounding Presidential Secretary

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has issued a direct challenge to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, urging him to take decisive action over allegations levelled against the Presidential Secretary.
The outspoken opposition politician called on the President to demonstrate his oft-repeated commitment to accountability and good governance by addressing the controversy head-on, rather than allowing the matter to be swept under the rug.
A Test of Presidential Resolve
Namal Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and a prominent figure within the SLPP, argued that the allegations surrounding such a senior official within the President's own office cannot be ignored without serious damage to the administration's credibility.
The MP contended that if President Dissanayake and his National People's Power government are genuinely serious about rooting out corruption and upholding transparency — pledges that formed the cornerstone of their election campaign — then swift and impartial action against those in high office must follow, regardless of political affiliation or proximity to the presidency.
Opposition Keeps Pressure on Government
This latest challenge forms part of a broader pattern of scrutiny that opposition parties have maintained against the Dissanayake administration since it assumed power. The SLPP, despite its own troubled recent history in government, has been vocal in holding the ruling party to its own stated standards.
Rajapaksa stressed that the public deserves answers, and that allowing allegations against a top presidential aide to linger without investigation would send entirely the wrong message to Sri Lankans who voted for change.
Political observers note that the challenge puts the President in a delicate position — any perceived reluctance to act could be used by opponents to undermine the government's anti-corruption narrative, while a firm response would signal that no official, however senior, is above scrutiny.
As of the time of reporting, the President's office had not issued an official response to Namal Rajapaksa's public challenge.
