Namal Rajapaksa Faces Five-Hour FCID Grilling Over Tangalle Bay Hotel Acquisition

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa was subjected to an intense round of questioning by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) for close to five hours on Friday, in connection with the alleged use of misappropriated funds to purchase the Tangalle Bay Hotel.
Allegations Linked to Channel CSN
Investigators focused their questioning on claims that money allegedly siphoned from Channel CSN — a Sri Lankan sports television network — was used to finance the acquisition of the beachfront hotel property in Tangalle. The FCID has been probing the financial trail surrounding both the channel and the hotel deal as part of a broader financial crimes investigation.
MP Reports to FCID Headquarters
The son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented himself before investigators at the FCID on Friday, where he was questioned at length by senior officers handling the case. The session stretched to nearly five hours, signalling the seriousness with which authorities are pursuing the investigation.
Namal Rajapaksa, who has been a prominent figure in Sri Lankan politics and continues to serve as a key organiser within the SLPP, has not publicly commented in detail on the specific allegations put to him during the questioning.
Ongoing Financial Crimes Probe
The FCID, which operates under the Sri Lanka Police and is tasked with investigating large-scale financial offences, has been conducting inquiries into a number of high-profile cases involving alleged misuse of public and private funds. The Tangalle Bay Hotel matter is among the more closely watched cases given the political stature of those implicated.
Further developments in the investigation are expected as the FCID continues to examine financial records and statements gathered during the course of their inquiry.
