Diesel prices in the United Kingdom have surged to their highest point in 40 months, reaching levels not seen since December 2022. Petrol prices have also climbed, now averaging 152 pence per litre, while diesel stands at 181.2 pence. According to Simon Williams, a policy chief at the Royal Automobile Club, it now costs £10.55 more to fill a typical family petrol car compared to the beginning of the Iran conflict. Diesel car owners are facing an increase of £21.35. The ongoing war in Iran and events in the Strait of Hormuz have significantly raised global fuel prices. In response, some countries are implementing measures to reduce fuel consumption. For instance, Sri Lanka has started fuel rationing, and two states in Australia are offering free public transport to encourage citizens to drive less.
