Public warned of scammers posing as senior police officers

Sri Lanka Police have received reports about groups operating in Colombo that are pretending to be senior police officers. These scammers are contacting tourist hotels and private businesses to ask for food, money, or other help for official events. They are using the names of real senior police officers to do this, according to a statement from the Police Media Division. Investigations into these scams are now underway. The police have warned all institutions and the public to be careful and not fall for these tricks. They urge anyone who gets suspicious calls or has information about these incidents to report it to their local police station or to contact the Senior Superintendent of Police - Colombo Central at 071 – 8591551.
