Four Buddhist monks, including Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thero, along with six other people, have had their remand extended until February 9, 2026, by the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court. They face charges for installing a Buddha statue at the Trincomalee Bodhiraja Vihara on November 16, 2025, which is said to have broken coastal conservation laws.
