Fairly heavy showers expected in parts of the island today
Today, the Department of Meteorology has forecasted that showers and thundershowers will happen in several areas, including the Northern, North-central, Uva, Eastern, and Central provinces, as well as the Hambantota district. In parts of the Eastern and Uva provinces, fairly heavy rain exceeding 50 mm is expected. After 1:00 PM, showers or thundershowers may also occur in various locations across the island. In the Northwestern, Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces, some areas may see heavy rainfall of about 75 mm. The Met Department also mentioned that misty conditions could affect parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, along with Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts during the early morning hours. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risks of damage from strong winds and lightning that may occur during thundershowers.
