Leakage reported in pipeline from ship unloading crude oil at Colombo Port brought under control
A leak occurred early today (14) at a crude oil unloading buoy in Colombo Port due to an explosion, but it has since been controlled. The leak lasted around 20 minutes and allowed about 200 metric tons of crude oil to mix with seawater, as reported by officials. The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA), along with help from the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), the Sri Lanka Navy, and the Sri Lanka Air Force, has taken steps to clear the crude oil from the seawater and manage the situation effectively.
