India should not participate in CHOGM in Sri Lanka at any level, Tamil Nadu CM insists

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in another letter to the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today reiterated her stance against India`s participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in November this year.

Noting that the recent statement by Singh that he would consider all relevant factors, including sentiments of Tamil people before deciding to attend the summit, the Chief Minister said India should not participate in the CHOGM hosted by Sri Lanka at any level whether `titular, ministerial or official.`

The Chief Minister in an earlier letter to the PM in March this year urged India to take a step to change the venue of CHOGM or at least to stay away from the meeting in Colombo to apply pressure on the Sri Lankan government to do justice for Tamils.

In today`s letter Jayalalithaa accusing the Sri Lankan government of committing genocide, war crimes and ongoing human rights abuses against the Tamil minority said the government continues to deny them `equality and democratic freedom and clearly violates the central credo of the Commonwealth.`

She said that India`s participation in the summit will amount to an endorsement of these excesses and will antagonize the Tamil Nadu people.

`Such participation will not only embolden the Sri Lankan regime but will also incense public opinion and sentiment in Tamil Nadu on this very sensitive issue even further,` she wrote to the PM.

She warned the New Delhi government that such participation will have `adverse implications` on the internal security situation in Tamil Nadu as political parties, students and civil society are staging protests, rallies and public agitations.

`The participation of India in the forthcoming CHOGM at Colombo will further aggravate the situation in Tamil Nadu,` the Chief Minister warned.

Pointing out that Prime Minister of Canada has already stated that he will boycott the summit, Jayalalithaa asked the Indian PM to ensure that the Government of India stays away from the CHOGM in Colombo.

The move will exert diplomatic pressure on Sri Lanka to adopt a more reasonable approach towards its Tamil minority population, she said in her letter.

`It will also emphatically demonstrate India`s commitment to upholding the values of democracy and respect for human rights globally and, in particular, in our neighbourhood. It will also be an expression of India`s empathy and solidarity with Tamils, not only in Tamil Nadu but elsewhere,` she noted.

Hon. Dr. Jayalalitha is calling all the shots in India now...!

The participation of India in the forthcoming CHOGM at Colombo will further aggravate the situation in Tamil Nadu

This means war between Tamils and Hindians..!

Singh has no option but to listen to her...or else, he will risk TN separating from India and then unify with Illankai island to form an independent Tamil nation, as it used to be when the island was connected by land mass!
