New Left Front leader Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne yesterday accused former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air chief Marshal Doneld Perera, Sri Lankan ambassador to Israel for insulting Palestine.
Karunaratne said that former SLAF Commander had no right to comment on Palestine and cause embarrassment to a friendly people. In a recent interview with a leading Israel s newspaper, Air Marshal Perera was quoted as saying that Sri Lanka respected the Jewish State s legitimate right to fight Palestinian terror, a statement the Foreign Ministry subsequently rejected.
NLF leader Karunaratne said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa should recall Ambassador Perera and initiate disciplinary action against him.
Addressing the media in Colombo, he alleged that Israel had celebrated her National Day at the Galle Face Hotel, though President Rajapaksa had supported the Palestinian cause throughout his career. He alleged that Israel had trained LTTE cadres and sold sophisticated weapons to the organisation to fight with government forces.
The veteran trade unionist said that the Western powers had not supported Sri Lanka, while the Arab world always stood by successive Sri Lankan governments.
Dr. Karunaratne said that people would soon realise the double game played by the government. Sri Lanka had been dancing to the tune of America, India and Israel, he said, severely criticising Israel for recent assault on a Turkish ship carrying food aid to Gaza.
Friends of Free Palestine Movement General Secretary Mujabar Rahaman said that the government had announced that the statement made by Ambassador Donald Perera to Israeli newspaper was his personal opinion. `It was a downright lie because an ambassador should have thought twice before making important statements to newspapers. Ambassador Perera has also said he never said that Palestine Movement was a terrorist group. He was silent because he had made a mean statement on Palestine and admired Israel.`
Rahaman said that the Friends of Palestine Movement would ask President Rajapaksa to bring diplomat Donald Perera to Sri Lanka and punish him.

Palaistheenuus gave training to Tamil terrorists. (This is a proven fact.)
Israel gave kfirs, drones and training to our forces to kill Tamil Terrorists.
Motta bahu what did you do ? Kotiyekuta Galak wath gehuwada ? This useless person can only shout once in a while.
Mr Perera has told the truth. Former SLAF Commander knows very well the value and support given by Israel to our Air Force.
If we punish him first punish people who got planes and training from Israel, and the persons who gave orders to fly those Israel made planes and drones to drop bombs and kill terrorists.
p.s.
I have worked with many countrymen including palaistanus. Our Muslim people are 1000 times better than those idiots. |

Absolutely right. But this is likely to be a call in the wilderness as it appears that the Ambassador had some powerful backing to say what he did. |
