Sri Lankan workers, trade unions and political parties are making preparations to mark this year`s May Day with pomp and show, according to a report.
The state-run radio reported that representatives from political parties and trade unions have finalized the arrangements to hold the first post-war May Day celebrations in a grand scale.
The ruling United People`s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) which just scored a resounding victory at the general elections held on April 8 plans to hold its May Day celebrations at the Colombo Town Hall grounds under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to the Secretary of the UPFA May Day organizing committee Western Provincial Governor Alavi Moulana, all constituent parties of the UPFA will participate at the May Day rally.
Reportedly the police have given approval to allow nine May Day rallies in the city.
