Nov 14, 2010 (LBO) - Helpless women whose picture were posted on the internet by third parties have been further victimized and in at least one case forced to flee her home after police published their pictures in the media, a report said.

Lakbimanews, an English weekly, said some of the pictures published in the media by police to catch `porn` actresses were private videos released by estranged lovers, while some appeared to be of an `amature` nature secretly shot with hidden cameras.
One victim in Nattanadiya had fled her home and parents in fear of her safely after she had been targeted by `sexual predators` the newspaper quoted a friend as saying

`Some of the pictures are of honeymoon couples, while many others are of girls shot by teenage boyfriends,` Lakbimanews said.

Some women have been subject to blackmail through such material, the newspaper said.

Several Sri Lankan newspaper editors last week refused to publish the pictures, despite a court order to do so, saying they were not sure of the origins of the material.

Ironically, the court order was obtained by the police `Children and Women`s Bureau.`

Police have already caught one woman and who can face up to six months jail or a fine of 10,000 rupees, or both, if convicted, the report said.

Pornography falls in to a category of so-called `victimless crimes` which many free countries have progressively de-criminalized. Last week Sri Lanka legalized gambling, another such activity, as part of efforts to develop the tourist industry.
Such laws have originally been based on an `offence` principle though a victim who had been `harmed` cannot be clearly identified.

In another recent incident police also arrested couples staying in 13 hotels in a provincial town.

Lakbimanews earlier report quoted a lecturer of Sri Lanka`s Colombo University, Prathiba Mahanma as saying that an arrested couple had once sought justice at Supreme Court.

Courts had had ruled that the marital status was not a consideration in their right to stay at a hotel, while adultery applied in divorce cases, only sex with people below 16 years of age was statutory rape, which is a crime, he said.

`Apprehending couples who are beyond the age limit required to stay in such rooms is a slight on the judiciary itself,` Mahanama was quoted as saying.

`The reason for this is, the judiciary has clearly granted the approval and the right to any couple who are not underage, from (sic) staying in such rooms.`

Cannot the authorities distinguish between a blue film or pornographic film where actual acting takes place and one which has been filmed using a mobile phone, hidden camera or commonly known as ameteur voyeur video where none of those featured are in any way acting??????

May be the cops and the judges have to be shown proper blue films first to educate them!!!

Porn films with real porn actors will come into the country either online or through DVD's. What is the govt gonna do about those? Are they gonna publish their photos?
Real culprits behind these low quality amature sex videos may be the guy who recorded them. No punishment for them.

Probably, there may be politicians benefitted even from the porn industry.

Because of that amature videos are being used as porn videos.

there is no one to complain or investigate in Sri Lanka because they all are part of the ORGANIZED CRIME SYNDICATE ????

at last some hope for rizana..

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has directed officials to hold talks with the household in which a Sri Lankan female domestic is alleged to have murdered a toddler in her charge as discreet diplomatic efforts were underway to secure her release, a senior official said yesterday.

The maid-Rizana Razeek has been placed on death row after Saudi Arabia s highest court found her guilty of smothering the child to death. The maid has denied the charges saying that the child had choked during a milk feed.

The External Affairs Ministry s Consular Chief Somadasa Wijeysundera said the King was responding to President Mahinda Rajapaksa s appeal seeking clemency for Rizana. Apart from the King, the dead child s parents could also give a pardon or settle for blood money, Mr. Wijeysundera said.

Meanwhile several other diplomatic efforts have been stepped up both in Riyadh and other foreign capitals to gather support for the release of the maid, he added. Our envoys in several countries both in the West and elsewhere are working closely with those respective countries towards this end. The response is encouraging but the process is slow because it needs a lot of diplomatic patience and understanding, he said.

According to reliable information even Britain s Prince Charles is reported to have approached the Saudi Royal family seeking clemency for Rizana.
