Some people believe that owning a Valampuri will bring prosperity. Ranaweera Gamage Jayathilaka, who has been in the business of selling sea shells during the past 12 years in Colombo said it is a lucrative sideline business. The Valampuri is within the price range of Rs. 50,000 and above, he said. According to Ranaweera, he gets the Valampuri from Tangalle, Hambantota, Kudawella, Mawanella, Kirinde and Thalpitiya. Here Ranaweera shows some of the Valampuri to a customer at his stall in Pettah.

	These shells are good for those who have not seen good shelles. They are worthless compared to good ones found in some other countries.

	Mawenella has no any sea to collect shells. It is located near to the up country. Shells collecting from MAwanella are shells of snails.
