The pathetic condition of Tamil language in the Sri Lankan government ministries and agencies websites. But Tamil is one of the official language of Sri Lanka.

Thursday, 5 November 2009 - 10:24 PM SL Time

The ethnic problem was largely due to the Tamil people feeling alienated particularly over the language issue and lack of equal access to the public service. It has become an urgent need to implement the language policy, says Chairman of the Official Languages Commission Raja Collure.

The Sinhala government did not magnanimously include Tamil as an official language of Sri Lanka in the constitution. But the Tamils of Sri Lanka spilled their blood for that to happen. The Sri Lankan Tamils are proud of their proper Tamil language usage and they have produced more than their share of Tamil scholars. The Eelam Tamils have been in the forefront of the protection of Tamil language and culture. Now the Sinhala government is corrupting the Tamil language on government websites, name boards and publications etc with unnecessary Sinhala words.

I think the Sinhala racism doesn`t allow them to hire the Native Tamil speakers to even do the Tamil translation related jobs. They hire the Sinhala Bakamoonas with little or no knowledge of Tamil to do the job and they mess up the name boards and websites with their Tamil translation. The pictures are just a few examples of the deliberate act of non implementation of language laws in the Sinhala Terror State even after 60 years of independence.

THE CONSTITUTION OF SRI LANKA

CHAPTER IV - LANGUAGE
Official Language.

18. 3(1) The Official Language of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala.
4(2) Tamil shall also be an official language.
(3) English shall be the link language.
(4) Parliament shall by law provide for the implementation of the provisions of this Chapter
.

National Languages.
19. The National Languages of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala and Tamil.

Chapter IV: LANGUAGE:
18. The Official Language of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala.
19. The national languages of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala and Tamil.
One needs vivid imagination to interpret this as 'Tamil language has the same equal status as the majority s Sinhala language. But wait, there is more.
In 1987, under Indian intervention and coercion, this official language policy was changed by the Thirteenth Amendment to the constitution. It was announced that Tamil will be elevated to the status of an official language equal to Sinhalese, but by a deceitful manoeuvre an inequality was introduced.
The Amendment renumbered Article 18 of the 1978 Constitution as Paragraph (1), thus retaining the clause The Official Language of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala . Beneath this, the following paragraph was added: (2) Tamil shall also be an official language.
Wouldn t it have been simpler to just say, 'The Official Languages of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala and Tamil'? This is a classic example of the reluctance to accepting Tamils as equals.

This post is about the non implementation and the proper implementation of Tamil as an official language of Sri Lanka. This is one of the main root cause of the problem. As usual you Sinhalese don't want to pay attention to the root cause of the ethnic issue.

But Tamil is one of the official language of Sri Lanka.

Sinhala Leaders are under too much pressure. Opposition politicians and many other special - interest groups such as JEHAN PERERA and Pakyasothy Saravanamuththu are no worse than LTTE killers.

Sri Lanka Tamils should learn Sinhala if they want to live among 90% of Sinhala people.

they are not learning Sinhala means, they are Racists and the govt is discriminating Sinhala against Tamil and supporting Tamil Racism.

TamilNAdu Tamils went against Hindu India and made Tamilnadu tamil a Tamil - english mixed language.

Even then, they use North India for favouration to develop TN as an industrial/economic hub.

Tamils in Sri Lanka doing the same thing.

Sri Lankan Tamils have never contributed to the development of Sri Lanka. they get everything free and move to greener pastures.

Thivya's parents were no different.
