| | Dedication, Childhood Stories for Little Brother *Imperator* Saturday, 5 May 2007 - 10:13 PM SL Time | | | Mahadenamutta:
He was an old man who lived in a village in Sri Lanka. He had grey hair and wore a semi-circular comb, as was the style those days. His pair of spectacles gave him an almost a professorial look. He usually wore a white cloth and a black coat. As he was old, he used to carry a walking stick.
Mahadenamutta had five pupils.
He himself had named them according to their appearance.
Pupils were named:
`Idikatu Pencha` because he was a thin tall person. He looked like a big needle.
`Puvak Badilla` with a thin face. He looked like an arecanut tree.
`Polbe Muna` because his face resembled a `half coconut`.
`Kotu Kithaiya`, he was a thin person who looked like a stick.
`Rabboda Aiya` as he had a big tummy or what is called a `toddy belly`.
There were few different stories about their vanished adventures. It was a fun to have them in my childhood stories.
I am sure that you guys heard about the `master and the gang`.
About the Tamil version, maybe someone from our Tamil Brothers or Sisters let us know about the existence of equivalent story.
:-)

Saint,
I remember in the 70s when I was in the Primary we learnt these stories and we call our fellow friends with all those names.
Obviously the most critical one was 'Polbae muuna' we had a friend called Rohana and his face looks pretty protruding and we call him polbae muuna. I still feel sorry for the guy. He now works as politician in the UNP (probably fits the title :)
Piyal,
Good name fixing. Guess you missed TC. he probably is Rabboda aiyya :))
also by the feels of it I don't think Mark is that skinny to be indikatu pancha, I may be wrong, but I feel a rugby lover cannot be that skinny, am I right ;)
