The director of the National Counterterrorism Center stepped down on Tuesday, marking the first high-profile resignation from U.S. President Donald Trump鈥檚 administration due to the war in Iran. Joseph Kent stated that Iran did not pose any immediate threat to the United States. In a letter shared on X, he explained, 鈥淚 cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful lobby.鈥 Some experts believe that current laws require an imminent threat for the U.S. to initiate a war. The White House and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not respond right away to requests for comments. The news surprised intelligence officials. Kent has a close relationship with Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, who has remained largely silent since the war began. Gabbard has not made any public statements and has only been seen publicly during the dignified transfer of American soldiers who lost their lives earlier this month in the conflict with Iran.
