An adjournment debate regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday Attacks will occur in Parliament this week. The opposition has put forward this proposal, which is set for Thursday, November 9. The Department of Communication announced that Parliament will meet for three days starting tomorrow, November 7. This decision was made during a meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne. Tomorrow, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., discussions will include Regulations under the Convention Against Doping in Sports Act, Regulations under the Strategic Development Projects Act, and Rules under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act. Additionally, the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill and the Social Security Contribution Levy (Amendment) Bill, which were first presented to Parliament on March 17, are scheduled for their Second Reading unless they face a challenge in the Supreme Court according to Article 121 of the Constitution. Parliament will not meet on Wednesday due to a government-declared holiday. On Thursday, between 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., discussions will focus on orders under the Army Act (Chapter 357), Navy Act (Chapter 358), and Air Force Act (Chapter 359). If the President issues any Proclamations under the Public Security Ordinance and the Essential Public Services Act, those motions will also be up for debate. Following that, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the adjournment debate initiated by the Opposition regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks will take place.
